Short-term guest accommodation

That LGNZ advocates for enabling legislation that would allow councils to require all guest accommodation providers to register with the council and that provides an efficient approach to imposing punitive action on operators who don’t comply.

SUPPORT

An objective of HBRC’s funding review of Hawke’s Bay Tourism (HBT) is to develop a long term sustainable funding model that ensures those who benefit commercially from tourism contribute to the promotion and marketing of the region.

Peer-to-peer accomodation is a sector that would appear to benefit – HBT says locally the sector collected $26.4M in the 12 months to April 2019 (more than double the previous year’s revenue of $13M) – yet is difficult to capture.

HBRC currently has no tools to identify peer-to-peer properties. Having legislation such as proposed would be of great assistance.
