Follow-up on CHB Private Drinking Water Supply Issues |
|
|
This item is in response to a specific request from the Committee for the Working group to follow-up. · Liz Lambert updated the committee on current activities of the taskforce established, consisting of a diverse group of members including HBRC, CHB DC, private bore owners, commercial growers, industry reps, tangata whenua, DOC, Forest & Bird and Fish & Game, which will focus on water quantity issues in the Ruataniwha area. · Two issues of concern in CHB are 1) the increased minimum flow which came into effect through Plan Change 6 on 1 July 2018 and the implications for large water takes, particularly irrigators; and 2) the petition received from residents of Tikokino and Ongaonga about their concerns about large irrigation takes directly impacting on their domestic water supplies. · The taskforce has met twice and agreed on the issues to focus on · A survey of Ongaonga and Tikokino residents is under way to obtain more information on the bores, water issues and residential water supply. · It was suggested that a representative of the DHB be appointed to the taskforce. |
